Can you get a PO box under a fake name?

Shipping to a PO box with a pseudonym is possible, as the same rules as for mail delivery apply. Some postal offices require a list of names who are authorized to receive mail and packages to that PO box: in that case, it should be easy to register your pseudonym as a legitimate receiver.

Do you have to put your name on a PO box?

Yes. When a post office box application (ps form 1093} is filed with a post office and approved, the owner/renter of the box needs to list the names of the people who will be receiving mail at that box other than themselves. Only those people are legally able to receive mail at that box.

Can a PO Box be traced?

Postal employees CANNOT reveal the renter of a PO Box rented for personal use. They MAY divulge a PO Box used for business on a case-by-case basis. A personal box USED for business is still a personal box. If you need to know the PO Box address of a person, ask them, not us.

Is it illegal to use a fake name?

“If a person assumes a fictitious identity at a party, there is no federal crime,” the letter says. “Yet if they assume that same identity on a social network that prohibits pseudonyms, there may again be a CFAA violation. This is a gross misuse of the law.”
